Events at the shop

Teach Something. Show Something. Gather People.

San Francisco Vintage is open to artists, instructors and creative hosts who want to hold an intimate event or teach a class surrounded by the collection. The room is small on purpose. It is the kind of room where everyone can hear each other, see what your hands are doing, and leave having actually met somebody.

Host an Event

If you make something, teach something, or have an idea for an evening that belongs among old furniture and good light, we would like to hear it. The shop hosts a small number of events, chosen the same way the stock is chosen — one at a time, because they are interesting.

You set your admission price and you keep 70% of the gross admission revenue. San Francisco Vintage keeps 30%. That is the whole commercial arrangement.

Every event and every setup is approved in advance. That is not a formality — the floor is a working shop full of things that are for sale, and the approval conversation is where we work out together what the room needs to become for your evening and how it goes back afterwards.

Classes and Creative Gatherings

The room suits anything where a small group is an advantage rather than a compromise. Some of what we would welcome:

  • Art classes, taught in a room full of things worth looking at
  • Craft workshops, where everyone gets a seat at the same table
  • Demonstrations, close enough that people can see your hands
  • Small creative gatherings, readings and salons
  • Other thoughtful concepts we have not thought of yet — bring them

If your idea is not on that list, that is not a no. The list is a starting point, and the most interesting proposals usually are not on it.

Capacity and Setup

The space generally accommodates approximately 8 to 10 guests. That is an intimate room and we treat it as the feature it is: nobody sits at the back, nothing has to be repeated, and a class of ten people gets ten people's worth of attention.

The exact number depends on the proposed activity, how the furniture is arranged, accessibility needs, and the setup your event requires. We settle it together when we approve the event rather than guessing at it here.

Anything not written on this page has not been decided. If a question about money comes up that this section does not answer, ask, and the answer will be added here rather than agreed privately.

Submit an Inquiry

Tell us what you would like to do, roughly when, and roughly how many people. If you are proposing an exhibition, say what the work is and how much wall it needs. You will get an honest answer quickly, including if the answer is no.

What is this about?

Only if you would rather be rung than emailed.

For example: a two-hour watercolour class, or a show of twelve small oils.

What you would do, who it is for, and anything the room would need to become for it. If you are proposing an exhibition, say what the work is.

Would rather just write to us? Tell Us Your Idea by email instead. It reaches the same person and gets the same answer; it just does not leave you a record that it arrived.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people can I have?

Approximately 8 to 10, depending on the activity, the furniture arrangement, accessibility needs and your setup.

How does the money work?

You keep 70% of gross admission revenue and San Francisco Vintage keeps 30%.

Do I need approval?

Yes. Every event and every setup requires advance approval, and for an exhibition that includes the artwork and the installation plan before anything is hung.

What does a gallery exhibition cost?

Pricing is provided after your exhibition proposal is reviewed. There is no standard rate, and we are not going to invent one before we have seen the proposal.

What about food, drink, insurance or a deposit?

None of those are settled, so this page does not pretend they are. Raise it in your inquiry and we will work it out for your event, and whatever we agree will end up written on this page for the next person.
